Celebrating Mandela Day

THE Mall at Scottsville and Capital Centre donated blankets and food items to the NPO, Children In Distress (Cindi), for distribution to less-fortunate children in crèches and schools in Imbali and Edendale.

Jane Pillay, Capital Centre and the Mall at Scottsville marketing manager, said that choosing a needy organisation to donate to is something they do every year. “As a mall, we don’t let this day pass without giving time and items to the needy. We look at organisations and select one to sponsor, and this year we chose Cindi. We chose to donate to children aged from birth to six years.

“Children were very close to Mandela’s heart, which is why we chose to do something for them. We will continue serving the community, especially those in rural areas.”

She asked the Pietermaritzburg community to donate to those less-fortunate. “It is important for the community to donate to those in need. Some of us are fortunate and don’t see [they are fortunate]. The community needs to participate in donating. We are together, we are one.
